You’re in good hands.

We’ve rapidly enhanced all aspects of Safety, Operations, Communication and Culture at

History of the Communication Cube

  • Often forgotten fact, most things go WELL in organisations.

Understanding why they go well so you can repeat these behaviours is key to optimizing all KPIs.

Over several years, we conducted some research to find out why things went well in organisations.
That’s right, not how to fix things when it went wrong (not firefighting!), but what were people doing, how were they thinking and feeling, communicating and interacting with each other when projects went well, people were happy and felt cared for and targets were being achieved or even surpassed.

“I felt the information within Bruce’s presentation of resonated with everyone across the business, including contractors who we include in our one team approach. It certainly made me think differently.”

Operations Director. John Sisk Builders.

What makes a team tick…?

We identified what the driving behaviours were when a safe, connected and high performing organisation was the output.

These behaviours are talked about, practiced, applied and enhanced across all our client base.

They are globally applicable, non-culture dependant, relevant to every industry and land with each individual.

“So simple in its application yet it literally did make an impact with every single person around communication, safety and overall performance.”

Ops Director. JDR Cables.

The Cube Behaviours

Do you see yourself, your team and your family members below?

Offer without fear

Ever felt scared or even apprehensive about speaking up in certain group settings? So has everyone else! This fear is reduced in safe and high performing teams where enhanced psychological safety has been developed over time.

Ladder

Biggest Learning – Have YOU ever made stuff up in your head? In every project we analysed, 100% of people-based errors came from incorrect inferences, misinterpretation, and stress driven by non-factual narratives. That’s where our “ladder” begins: What is fact, and what is fiction? Embedding this question into your business language is a psychological and physiological game changer.

Hulk

If we can control the ladder, then our Inner Hulk does not show up. The illogical, emotional, knee jerk reaction version of us that does absolutely nothing for our mental health, performance or that of the feelings and performance of others who may be impacted by our Inner Hulk.

Hear others

Do you talk over people? Stop listening to others because you are bored, don’t like what they say or haven’t got the time to listen to them? So does everyone else at certain times! Enhanced active listening skills were more present in safe and high performing teams.

Deliver thanks

How much of the time do you reflect and discuss on the brilliant work you achieve? Or the great results that the team gets? Probably not enough, like most organisations who pay lots of attention to the negative stuff! Appreciative inquiry helps us learn why we get things right to then repeat the process.

Reflect honestly

Is there anyone who doesn’t get a warm feeling when they sit with other people face to face and they have the time and safety to share how they feel? To learn from what went well and not so well in past efforts but also to apply the 3 previous behaviours to make them feel happier and perform better on the next project.

“The Communication Cube has been the game changer for our team. So simple in its application, it truly resonates at every level and helps everyone stay safe and perform better, and the front-line teams absolutely love it which was a major concern for us”.

Ops Director. Blue Float Energy.

Easy to roll out, keeps the teams on the tools and makes everyone better. To use Bruce’s words – what’s not to love!
Siemens – Operations Director
What really helped was how little time this takes to roll out and how many people get it, simply as we can all see ourselves in the material!
Siemens – Operations Director
His passion for positive, proactive human interaction is obvious. Bruce helps people interact better, understand each other with greater clarity, and comprehend and react to feelings in ways that will reduce unsafe behaviour. National Oilwell Varco - HSE Global Director The safety training that Bruce and the team have delivered has, without doubt, helped us improve our safety culture right across the business. They get our guys, and our guys get them. And that right there, is something to be grateful for. Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions - Operations Director
Fun, energetic, engaging, challenging, but always done with a smile. In the 20 years I have been involved in safety, I have never come across a company who can create engagement like Bruce and the team, especially with frontline staff. Rio Tinto - UK HSE Director
Safety can always be an evocative area. I found with Bruce’s leadership and unique energy, there is not that many people who can resist for that long. Even the people who can usually kick back find themselves getting involved and that is a testament to Bruce and the teams approach to engagement. Amec - Operations Director Bruce has been a blast over the past 3 days. I can vouch for everyone, by the feedback I have received saying how engaged they were during your presentation in today’s workshops! EDF Energy - HR Director Bruce is clearly an expert in the field of human behavioural science and is able to make a connection with the audience from the first minute with his unique, humorous and energetic style of presenting. JDR Cables - Operations Director I have seen Bruce Durham present many times, but never have I seen and felt his energy like we did in that room yesterday. Having had us in stitches, fear of embarrassment and tears - it was a rollercoaster ride! Thank you for caring as much about this event as we did! Willmott Dixon - Groups Safety Director
